Welcome Back!

Network Services would like to welcome back all faculty and students to the fall semester! While the University is a little quieter in the summer, Network Services is very busy making improvements to systems in preparations for the next year. Some of the most notable improvements are listed below.

Windows 10: Most labs have gone through the upgrade to Windows 10 over the summer. We have worked hard to make this transition as easy as possible. While Staff and Faculty machines and instructor stations remain on Windows 8.1, we have the goal of being completely on Windows 10 by Fall 2018. Faculty: If you would like to demo Windows 10 with specialized applications or just to become familiar, please fill out a “Virtual Desktop Request Form” in our helpdesk at http://support.tusc.kent.edu/helpdesk

ST-119 Lab Upgrades: Brand new Dell Optiplex 7450 all-in-one computers have been installed in this lab with Windows 10. These machines feature 24” HD screen with Intel i7 Quad-Core processors and 16GB of DDR4 RAM. Similar specs can be found in the Cyber Café with machines we upgraded last fall.

Custom Channels: We have recently worked with a music service, Custom Channels, to provide streaming music to the student union. This service provides curated, filtered, and properly licensed music with the ability to inject our own advertisements. A second zone will soon be available via a portable speaker for events in other areas of the building.

More Training: With the growing participation in training from our “Learn IT” series, Network Services will be offering more opportunities to meet with us and learn more about the technologies that we provide to the Tuscarawas Campus Community. Stay tuned to our page for updates and register for courses in our calendar at http://support.tusc.kent.edu/calendar

Network Services is glad to see the building buzzing once again in anticipation of the new semester. As always, you can come see us on the 2nd floor of Founder’s Hall. Full-time staff is located in room A214 and the helpdesk is in the middle of the Cyber Café.
